Outage Update: 12:00AM

Not much to report beyond what Chris reported earlier. My ISP hasn’t gotten back to me, and I don’t expect them to do so until tomorrow. So much for service.

These issues bring a number of larger CSFBL woes to light. We’ve talked a lot about these in the past, and I do want to take this opportunity to talk about them more… Just not right now. Let’s see what happens tomorrow morning, and we’ll take it from there.

Thanks to everyone for their patience. I’ll keep you in the loop as best I can!

No worries, gives a few folks a chance to recover from withdrawls…

Here’s what I’d hate… I’d hate for you guys (most particularly Brian) to become stressed about the downtime. What CSFBL provides, it provides for free – and, for myself, this is one instance where ‘free’ does not equate with ‘low quality.’ CSFBL is a hoot-and-a-half!

Downtime is downtime. Slowtime is slowtime. Stuff happens. When I first started here last spring, I’d get all frantic when downtime or slowtime happened.

It took awhile, but I learned to simmer down and roll with it, at such times. This is simply one of those times, and it’s okay. When we’re back up, well… groovy.

What this is, really, is a nice chance to again say thank you to Brian and Chris et al, for the many, many ‘kicks n grins’ provided by CSFBL.

I would just like to thank Brian for shutting the site down for a few days while I get ready too move.
    j/k

But like the first two comments.
    No worries.
CSFBL shouldn’t be something to cause stress.

  4. Hesketh Says:

That’s cool mate and don’t stress about it it’s a great game looked after great people keep up the work your doing great.

  5. meddlepal Says:

What Sparkysboy said. This is a free game, no reason to stress about it. Downtime is downtime, it happens.

Take it easy, and thank you for the game.

  6. Ed Says:

I’d like to second what those other guys already seconded.

  7. MBerry69 Says:

I would have to concur. I have been involved with CSFBL since ‘01 and the fact that the site has remained free all these years is simply amazing. I want to thank you guys for providing an entertaing sim game that is 2nd to none, even the ones that charge fees. Can’t wait for the new one to be unleashed!

I wouldn’t call it “getting stressed.” It’s frustrating, and it will continue to be a thorn in our sides until we find a long-term solution to the problem. I have my thoughts on this, but I want to sort things out before I commit.

Hopefully I will hear from my ISP today to find out if they will push the power button for me.

On a side note, aren’t pitchers/catchers reporting in a couple of weeks?

  10. barroomhero Says:

Now THAT is something I am desperately waiting for. Go Sawx!

  11. blackholedave Says:

Hey Brian, couldn’t someone just simply throw a baseball at the button, would not even have to get out of their chair to do that?? LOL.
I don’t know anything about computers, or how they work anyway, just enjoy playing with them. I have to agree with many of the others, and say that csfbl is one of the greatest inventions, well, since the internet. Wonderful game, wonderful friends. I don’t have a single complaint about anything. I have sent in money a few times, since I figured it was my duty to do so, since I have received countless hours of fun for practically nothing, hopefully others can and will do the same.

It’s too bad you have to deal with this frustration, but I guess that’s the way it goes sometimes. We’ll all still be here.

As for the timing of it, I’ve been so busy this week that I wouldn’t have had any free time for the game anyway.

  13. Chris G. Says:

Sad thing is, even in a huge datacenter, there must be people walking down the rows of computers all the time, doing routine maintenance on the place. It would take 10-15 seconds from someone who was walking by to press the power button twice. The $125 per hour charge for “travel time” is a joke.

  14. starwalker Says:

When our server goes down at school, we used to have to call someone to come down to get it back up. We’re a rural school, so it would take them a day or two to “find time.” One day, I shadowed the guy doing it and found out he was pushing 2 buttons, 2 times each—one off, one on. Now, we don’t call anybody unless that doesn’t work and it takes something more complex.

In that picture under “ComputerSims Outage Blog”, what are we looking at?
